Council does not owe David Mack any money - 21/01/2009
Mayor Michael Laws today categorically rejected published allegations ('Wanganui Chronicle' 21 Jan 2009) that former bankrupt and businessman David Mack was owed $30,000 by the Wanganui District Council."David Mack is a liar. He is a commercial hazard and has totted up tens of thousands of debts to Wanganui businesses. His fantasy about council owing him money is just that – a fantasy."
Mayor Laws said that he had personally forebade council dealing with Mr Mack or his firm, David Mack Associates, after a council inquiry into Mr Mack in April 2007.
"When we researched the guy's history, we found him to be a bankrupt with a long and dubious commercial history. We made public our conclusions, but still Wanganui businesses entered into relationships with him.
"It has been the history of this guy that he fobs off creditors by claiming other people owe him money. In the council's case, we owe this man nothing."
